New Technologies Transforming Humans Into Ultra-Humans

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Expansionary News Service) July 20, 2004. Is our species about to make the leap from human to ultra-human?

Imagine possessing eyes so sharp you can read small street signs a block away, ears so sensitive you can hear whispered conversations across the street, and skin so resilient that you could be hit by a car and walk away from the auto accident unscathed.

Noted sociologist and futurist Michael G. Zey, author of “The Future Factor”, labels people with such enhanced physical traits  “Ultra-Humans”. “While we’re not quite there yet”, Zey says, “within the next few decades it will be possible for people to achieve this state of physical perfection.”

On August 2, 2004 Dr. Zey will describe this surprising new trend in his presentation “From Human to Ultra-Human: The Quest for Physical Perfection in the 21st Century” at the World Future Society annual conference to be held at the Washington DC Grand Hyatt in July 31-August 2.

“This transformation has already started” , Zey asserts. Cochlear implants are enabling the deaf to hear. Physicians now routinely use the power of the laser to eliminate cataracts and permanently cure near-sightedness. U.S. and Japanese scientists are developing an artificial retina that may help us conquer blindness caused by macular degeneration.

“We’re implanting into the body bionic limbs, joints, and artificial organs such as the heart’, Dr. Zey says, “and using superhormones such as GBH to help our children grow taller.”  He points out that people are increasingly employing laser surgery and advanced tissue repair procedures to improve their physical appearance.

Within the next several decades, Michael Zey says, our quest for physical perfection will accelerate. Parents will turn to genetic engineering techniques to pre-design their children, selecting their offspring’s height, hair color, skin tone, even their intelligence, and eliminating from their children’s genetic make-up any gene-based tendencies toward specific diseases.

In his talk Dr. Zey will also explore the role of nanotechnology in the creation of the next generation of ultra-humans. The mysterious new science, which will enable us to construct any object from the bottom up, one atom at a time, will lead to the invention of super-materials that we can use to re-make damaged or “imperfect’ organs, limbs and skin.

Once these technologies become widely available, Zey warns, everyone will want to want to become an “Ultra-Human”.

“Our species’ transformation from human to Ultra-Human”, Dr. Zey says, “Will then be complete”
