The major publication coming out of the Davos meeting, Global Agenda magazine, this year featured some articles which looked at the impact of this worldwide phenomenon. One of the articles, simply entitled “The Implications of Living Longer”, was written by sociologist/futurist Dr. Michael G. Zey, the author of the forthcoming book forthcoming Ageless Society (New Horizons/Kensington).http://

In the article, Dr. Zey contends that we are in the midst of the “Superlongevity Revolution”, the radical extension of the human life span. According to Zey, a remarkable series of breakthroughs simultaneously occurring in a number of different fields, genetic engineering, cloning, tissue regeneration, stem cell research, nanotechnology, and caloric restriction will enable us to live to ages of . 150 years or greater.
Speaking from his offices in Morristown, NJ, Dr. Zey claims that “the Superlongevity will change every aspect of our lives, including our careers.”
Zey states that most of us will career and then “re-career” well into our 90s and beyond. For most people retirement as we know it will become a thing of the past.
Dr. Zey predicts that in this new era “marriage, childbearing, mate selection, and family life will change dramatically.” Superlongevity could lead to the legitimization of serial marriages. When the life span exceeds 125, he claims, we might no longer expect people to live with the same person for a century or more. And parents will now have the added responsibility of choosing their children’s genetic make-up. Zey also sees six or seven generations of a family living together in an extended family household or community.
“Inclusion of my article on superlongevity in the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda magazine shows that world leaders and policy makers are aware of how important this issue is”, Michael Zey claims.
Next we must determine how we will handle the challenges and tap into the opportunities presented by the Superlongevity Revolution.
