German Study Claims Virtual Sex Sustains Relationships

A German study released on Tuesday found that erotic
e-mails and sexy phone conversations can boost the
endurance of long-distance romances.

"Without virtual sex, long-distance relationships fall
apart," Henner Ertl, head of the Munich Institute for
Rational Psychology, told AFP. "Sex on the phone or over
the Internet can help sustain these couples."

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Ertl's study
was based on interviews with 5,000 German men and women
who live far from their lovers. The study was done for
the German edition of Glamour magazine.

Research showed such couples had some type of virtual
sex an average of three times per week. Roughly 62
percent of the survey's participants said that they
preferred phone sex to all other means of communicating
with their partners during absences.

Additionally, one out of five confessed to taking part
in erotic conversations with their partner in online
chat rooms, while the same number sends letters or
e-mails.
