On Wisconsin Public Radio Sociologist Michael Zey Will Reveal “Why the Future Hasn’t Happened”

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Expansionary News Service) July 26, 2002. On Tuesday, July 30, 2002, 8:00 AM (9:00 AM EDT) internationally-acclaimed sociologist/futurist Dr. Michael G. Zey will appear for a one-hour interview on Wisconsin Public Radio.

Dr. Zey will describe the role political and economic forces have played in slowing the introduction of new technologies such as high-speed trains and nuclear fusion. Speaking from his Morristown office, the futurist/sociologist states that “over the last few decades, America has made little progress in developing new forms of transportation and energy”.

Zey is a proponent of the “expansionary” philosophy, a strongly pro-growth and pro-progress perspective which some consider controversial, others inspiring..

Dr. Zey has developed and promoted the Expansionary perspective in his current bookThe Future Factor: The Five Forces Transforming Our Lives and Shaping Human Destiny (McGraw-Hill), and Seizing the Future (Simon and Schuster/Transaction).

Michael Zey is especially concerned that life-extension technologies, such as  genetic engineering and therapeutic cloning, will have problems reaching the public. According to Zey, “many people and groups oppose extending the human life span to 120 years or more, for a variety of economic and ideological reasons”

However, Dr. Zey, in spite of such resistance, “necessity will overcome ideology”--society’s need for energy, food, transportation, as well as a desire for a long and healthy life,  will eventually mandate that society adopt these technologies.
