Nanotechnology IP Resources and Commercialization
MENLO PARK, Calif., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Northern California Nanotechnology Initiative, NCnano, event showcases regional nanotechnology resources and companies.

The conference features speakers consisting of top management from the technology commercialization offices of the principal research institutions of Northern California; NASA Ames, UC, UC Davis, Lawrence Livermore and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, SRI International, as well as from Intel (Nasdaq:INTC), NEC (Nasdaq:NIPNY), Agilent (NYSE:A), Genencor and Nanosys.

"It is critical that Northern California support the development of the nanotechnology industry to compete against initiatives already underway in other regions of the United States and internationally," said Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose). "Northern California already possesses outstanding resources in venture capital, high-tech industry, and entrepreneurial spirit, but needs a driving force to coordinate these efforts. NCnano will help create conditions where both new ventures and established companies can thrive and establish the region as the leader in nanotechnology."

This event is part of a series of events featuring networking, lectures, and discussion in order to continue the development of the Northern California nanotechnology cluster.

"Nanotechnology is at the inflection point and NCnano provides much needed coordination and infrastructure for the dynamic and rapidly growing nanotechnology cluster in the Bay Area," said Chris Piercy, Chairman of the NCnano. "Companies like Intel, Agilent, Genencor and NEC have tremendous initiatives underway to maintain and increase their competitive positions in fields where nanotechnology holds enormous promise and companies like Nanosys are developing the nanotechnology products of tomorrow."

"Silicon Valley is the only place in the world where we could have built a company like Nanosys," commented Dr. Stephen Empedocles, Nanosys Co-founder and Director of Business Development. "We can't rest on our laurels.  Many regions across the US are offering very appealing financial packages to nanotechnology startups that locate in their area. NCnano will help ensure that Silicon Valley and the rest of Northern California continue to do what's needed to remain at the head of the pack."

NCNano is a regional economic development initiative focused on developing the economy of Northern California by facilitating the development of the world's leading nanotechnology cluster.
