2004: China Grows, Bush Wins, TV Networks Lose Plus Cold Fusion, Hybrid Cars! Expansionary Inst’s Dr. Zey Surveys New Yr.

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Expansionary News Service) December 29, 2003. One of the leading organizations  in the fields of forecasting, strategic future planning, and management consulting, the Expansionary Institute (www.zey.com) has issued its list of events and trends to keep an eye on in 2004.

According to the Institute’s Executive Director, Dr. Michael G. Zey, 2004 will see many momentous changes on the political and economic landscape.  Dr. Zey, internationally-known futurist and author of the forthcoming new edition of “The Future Factor”, contends that “The electronics and  computer revolution will continue to change the way we communicate, and how we work”.  Also, he sees economic growth ahead, along with a recovering job market.

Here are some other fearless predictions for 2004:

1. China’s mega-growth becomes both a boon and a bane for U.S. and Europe. China challenges us in space, and on the world economic scene. However, it also provides a ready market for U.S. investment and goods.

2. The major TV networks continue to lose viewers, to Internet, chat groups, video games.

3. World commodity prices begin to soar, as China’s need for everything from oil to cotton to precious metals dramatically expands.

4. Labor shortages emerge in the U.S., caused by the booming economy along with baby boomer retirement (the oldest  boomers are nearing sixty).

5. Nov. 2 Bush wins in hotly contested presidential election, as Dean proves more formidable than expected.

6. Nov. 3, mainstream press anoints Hillary Clinton the next president.

7. Because of growing homeland security concerns, immigration begins to emerge as a political issue.

8. Electronic communications revolution continues: hand-held Internet devices becomes commonplace. Broadband becomes standard in more U.S. homes.

9.  After years in the shadows, cold fusion resurfaces as part of solution to energy problems.

10. Hybrid fuel-cell cars such as the Honda Insight  and the Toyota Prius steadily  increase market share. Hybrids fuel efficiency will be main selling point.
